God’s place in a humanist society (11) [Locul lui Dumnezeu într-o societate umanistă]

Few things appear to be more disturbing for Big Brother than the Lord of the Christians, the God-Man Jesus Christ, Whom must be banished from the public space of this once-Christian-nation, so that the irreligious, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Wiccan etc wouldn’t be offended.

Unlike Him, all other gods are not only acceptable, but encouraged to appear in the open, so that their presence would prove Britain’s tolerance and multiculturality. Very often though, these gods are imposed, along with the array of absurd rules of their followers.

Such an excess of political correctness – supposedly meant not to trouble people of Islamic faith and their traditions – occurred in some British schools for girls aged 11 to 18, in Leicester, Lancaster and London.

These girls are forced to wear a burqa when they come to school, irrespective of their family and ethnic traditions that may not make such a garment compulsory! It is well-known that this tradition is not an ‘obligation’ in many Muslim countries.

Yet it is enforced in 21st century Britain! And this happens while, just across the English Channel, in Belgium and France, the wear of burqa in public spaces has just been outlawed this year.

I doubt that there are other European nations as tolerant and as less ‘anti-Islam’ as the British are, but how long could they take these abuses of political correctness? Aren’t they fed-up with Big Brother condoning human rights abuses of intolerant minorities?

How come only the God-Man, Jesus Christs, is viewed as subversive, and wearing a cross is deemed offensive, while a bunch of Islamist fanatics – not even representative for the 1.5 million of decent Muslims in the UK – are pampered?

When someone enters and chooses to remain in a foreign sovereign nation, either they should accept that nation's culture, laws and practices.

Well, I'm afraid it's the other way around in present day Britain: the locals are 'pressed' to accept the customs of the immigrants, and the majority is subjected to a dictatorship of minorities.

For the sake of the decent and genuinely tolerant Britons, I'd like to believe that the 'madness' of political correctness would remain a historical accident!

On the other hand, I am afraid that the New Labour's reign successfully 'rooted' some absurd things in British contemporary mentality.

Could they be uprooted?! I don't find it very likely, but le't hope so!

It seems that history does repeat itself.
Just like the communists used the lower classes to put pressure on the middle and upper class, so are the new communists using the minorities to put pressure on the local population.

@ "ME again"

I am aware that the anti-burqa movement in France is quite serious, and that many people, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds favoured the ban.

Socialists, conservatives, nationalists, and even Arab women living in France were against the burqa for various reasons...

But I wouldn't be enthusiastic about any 'feminist', be her from Algeria, UK or Romania! No matter how many decent things these women could support, most of them are atheists, pro-abortion, pro-'alternative families' etc :-(

@ Mihai

Of a truth, from many points of view I also think that 'New Labour' could have been translated as 'New Communists'.

The 'pressure' you mentioned is often felt in the UK, from the way "Merry Christmas!" was replaced with the insipid "Happy Holidays!", to numerous cases of 'positive discrimination'.

Yet there is no such thing! If one makes discrimination 'positive' (that is favouring somebody), there surely is someone else to whom the very same act is 'negative'.

@ everyone interested in this topic

Some may dismiss this article as a simple 'exaggeration' of the Daily Mail, however, things appear to be pretty worrisome in some Muslim neighbourhoods.

A group named Muslims Against the Crusades (MAC) says that "Muslims should set up Islamic emirates in the UK."

Yes, I heard about that.
There is even a TV show -talk show(I don't remember the name) that holds about an hour and is presented to an hour of prime time (few times/week) and talk only about their prophet, which was the only one that existed, the only one who made the best things in the world, etc.
if you knew even a little religion, it was clearly that he was distorting the truth and tried to induce specific ideas, muslim ...
